Nobody needs AI. It is a distraction along with an excitement promoter (just like Space travel) to 1) relive your boredom and 2) get you t not notice the extent of corporate takeover (neoliberalism). Society is being hollowed out from within, while we grasp at each new distraction.

"Nobody needs AI." I agree that the vast majority of people do not need AI. But Big Tech needs AI. Google, OpenAI, xAI, Amazon, Meta, Microsoft, Apple, and Airbnb are all developing the "everything app" which will provide us with new things before we even knew we wanted them. All of these apps rely on AI.

It's a race to destroy the planet and the people that live on it.

The Atlantic recently published an article about the "everything app": https://www.theatlantic.com/technology/archive/2025/06/everything-app-big-tech-ai-endgame/683024/

The use of AI by the very people who recognize its harm is preposterous and infuriating. Anyone who recognizes the overshoot and climate change using this tech is a hypocrite.

I think AI is one of the top threats to the living world and to humanity. And of course, it's closely related to the other top threats, as you point out in your post. It's really strange that George Monbiot's calculus on creating a film on a low budget ignored the harms generated (and perpetuated) by AI.

At this point in time, there are so many existential threats that it's very hard for people to keep up, or to feel hopeful about doing something to get it stopped. I believe that a 'systems analysis' could clarify the common origins of almost all of these threats, and perhaps identify a common target for our wrath and resistance. I'm not suggesting we stop fighting the many heads of this hydra, but I do think it would be useful to understand the underlying monster.

https://greendispatch.substack.com/p/in-correspondence-a-discussion-of?utm_source=publication-search I liked the book and had what I consider an interesting back and forth with Loyd Alter on it several months back. I’m disappointed that they used so much AI in the film.
