It wasn't that long ago, in an attempt to increase export income, the forests of New Zealand were torched with napalm then seeded with grass (all from the air) so that sheep could cover the land. Now it's tree plantations? This is happening all over the Global South, yes it is colonization on an industrial scale. https://www.carbonbrief.org/loggers-have-grabbed-around-1m-hectares-of-indigenous-land-in-drc/

Nothing ever good comes from pouring money out on the land, except for more debt - ecological and generational. Logging debris left behind? Privatize the profits, socialize the expenses - The Corporate Manifesto.

Maori are not indigenous to New Zealand. They came here on boats like many of our european forfathers.

Thanks for this comment Keith. The UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues has a useful factsheet about "Who are Indigenous Peoples?" - https://www.un.org/esa/socdev/unpfii/documents/5session_factsheet1.pdf.

Here's an interesting article by Alice Te Punga Somerville, in response to Winston Peter's claim that Māori aren’t Indigenous - https://e-tangata.co.nz/comment-and-analysis/are-maori-indigenous-thats-not-the-real-question

She notes that, "it’s worth being very clear that none of the formal definitions or widespread uses of 'Indigenous' includes a requirement that the people in question have no histories of movement or mobility".

And here's the International Work Group for Indigenous Affairs' page on Aotearoa (New Zealand), which starts with the statement that, "The Māori are the Indigenous People of Aotearoa (New Zealand)" - https://www.iwgia.org/en/aotearoa-new-zealand.html

Honestly Keith, is that all you have to say. Can’t you see here that regardless of your misinformed, ignorant and irrelevant comment about indigineity, Māori are the ones trying to protect the land, while you whinge away with your delusions.

I’m so over this kind of attitude while you ignore very real issues happening in this country. Usually I really try and be curious with people like you but today I’ve had enough. Get better and get educated!

No matter what you think, European forefathers are responsible first for the stripping of the land, then stupidly trying to replace with pine when land eroded and then selling those off to the highest bidder who doesn’t give a rats arse. Did you read the article? Along with Tangata Whenua there are farmers etc who know this IKEA business is a bad idea all round but you just write your ignorant, incorrect and pointless drivel.

DID YOU SEE THE DAMAGE CAUSED BY CYCLONE GABRIELLE IN TE TAI TOKERAU??? DID YOU SEE THE FORESTRY SLASH THAT FOREST PLANTATION OWNERS ARE TOO SELFISH AND GREEDY TO REMOVE BLOCKING THE WATER WAYS AND COVERING THE BEACHES?? Do you care? Or are you just like them? School yourself!! Please!!
