Great article, thanks! Just a couple points: carbon offsetting is part of the myth that "we still have time to make changes." This is a climate catastrophe; it is a predicament not a solvable problem. There IS no remaining "carbon budget," and don't quote climate has-beens like Keven Anderson or Michael Mann to me, that's backwards. Don't put all the blame on industry; this is a demand-side issue, the blame goes on extravagant consumption. It's PAST TIME for meaningful action; a good first step would be to ground all flights NOW and forever.
Thanks for sharing this. It’s a clearly laid out argument.
KM are we allowed to dis climate-god Kevin?
with a budget of zero all hell breaks loose straight away,
even to stay within his wildly optimistic 2030 budget fossil extraction
needs to reduce by %%% every year somewhat unfeasible without some sort
of wartime-like rationing that would be political suicide because just about
everyone considers themselves exempt from making any sacrifices without a "real" war,
alternatively (equitable) population reduction - a subject K.A is strangely silent on,
alternatively we can kick the can which is full of worms down the road for a bit longer.
